The New Year is fast approaching and I'm trying to decide on a challenge to take up for my blog.
Based on experiences with my #AlphabetChallenge this past year, I know I can get pretty distracted and forget about posting for my challenge but I really want to try finding one I like and sticking to the post dates.
So far I'm thinking of either a motivation challenge or a photo challenge (assuming of course that I get that camera I want for Christmas)....or maybe I'll just take on some other random challenge that I buck up online.
I promise that by December 31st I'll let that cat out the bag, including the frequency of the post and any other particulars worth telling.
Oh and feel free to give me challenge ideas...I'm always game for feedback =]
a little bit of this, that and the other

help my charity this Christmas
at
9:16 PM
One of the members of my charity entered the Foundation into a competition where we can receive a J$100,000 grant from a local company - Sagicor Life Jamaica.
You can read the submission below (or click here for a clearer image) and then vote for us by liking the photo on Facebook. After you've liked it, feel free to share it with your friends so we can get as many likes by December 19th when voting closes.
This is quite an opportunity for us, and with all the plans that the team and I have for 2013, the grant would definitely help us fund some of our projects with the Danny Williams Primary School for the Deaf and the Lister Mair Gilby High School for the Deaf.
So #GetInvolved and help us make a difference this Christmas. Let's get those likes up to at least 120 by December 19th!

super healthy potato chips
at
10:30 PM
The average person sees potato chips and says 'oh yea these look good.'
But then there are the not so average people (like me) who read food packages and nutrition labels; comparing the calories, fat, carbs, sodium and vitamins and minerals before purchasing a snack (unless I really feel for a specific thing).
This week I met potato chips from heaven that are neither baked nor fried, and are gluten-free and vegan approved- Pop Chips.
It's almost like a potato chip for everyone, but of course the only problem is that there is as much air in the package as there are chips -_-
I tasted the plain chips, and to be honest I did consider how much nicer it probably would have tasted with a hint of salmon cream cheese. Honestly though it was a nice snack to curb that 'post-breakfast but pre-lunch' hunger that hit me. I figure the flavoured ones are nice too (and probably don't need any additions).
After some Googling I noticed that these chips are honestly like 'the international healthy potato chips'...and if you don't believe me, you can check it out on their website where the nutritional facts are available for all their products (they definitely make use of their website!).
I'm working on getting back in shape so finding the healthy snacks is a MUST because I'm quite the snack-er! 1 snack down, many others to go!

how do you know if you've found 'the one'?
at
9:30 AM
Quite a few persons seem to think my boyfriend and I are just the bees-knees (which of course we are lol). Of course with that belief, every now and again I get a question which usually comes in one of two situations:
1. Single girl who is looking for that companion they can grow with and feels that her 'prince charming' isn't coming around...ever
2. Guy (sometimes single...other times in a relationship) who either honestly trust my advice or have some interest in me (more often than not, it's the latter...which while it is flattering, it's also a bit annoying).
What's the question you ask:
The last time I was asked this question was by a number of high school students who after seeing my laptop wallpaper (I forgot to make it generic before going into that session) got into a series of questions about my life. I'm a proud and happy wifey, and since my session was to be a relaxed heart to heart with them, I didn't see anything wrong with me sharing even a little bit of relationship advice.
On a serious note though; I'm honestly usually a bit taken aback by the question because I really have no amazing fairytale answer to give (which can be quite a bummer for someone who's hoping for it)....but there is that princess part of me that kinda wishes I could formulate a fabulous fairytale answer even just for my own sake.
In answering I tend to look back at where my hunny and I are coming from, how our relationship started out and the journey we've had together so far. I usually smile (at least in my head) when I talk about this stuff, because there is comfort in knowing that we have grown...individually and together, and that there is a love and friendship that we share.
Then usually after getting out all the cute stuff, there's the follow-up questions:
Unlike some people, I don't find my relationship to be a 'tie down' and that's probably because my boyfriend and I were friends before it got serious. And yes there are some things that he does that kinda annoy me...but I'm pretty darn sure there are stuff I do that annoy him.
After that experience though I really started looking into this whole idea of 'is he the one.' Not because I don't imagine that there is a future for us together (preferably with the nice wedding, good kids, picket fence etc etc), but more so that I'll be better able to answer the question when asked again (particularly by teens who really are hopeful for a fairytale scenario).
Then I found this video:
I think honestly that it's a good way to look at the situation (regardless of your religious standpoint). Instead of trying to find the perfectly amazing spouse...be the perfect spouse. And how do you do that? Be the best you that you can be.
As he mentions in the video, you may be searching far and wide for that perfect person that fits your fairytale standard; but then you walk pass/overlook the real perfect person who you see ever so often. This person may not be a knight on a white horse/the perfect homemaker, but he/she may have all the qualities you need to sync with your qualities, so that together you can help each other realise your full potential both together and individually.
So instead of wondering whether or not you have found 'the one', ask yourself if you've found someone who will help you realise your full potential; just as you will help them realise theirs.
You'll be surprised to know what you'll find hidden in a relationship you have with a friend/acquaintance. =]

2months, 2weeks and 4days later
at
10:12 PM
It has been ages since I've posted....2months, 2weeks and 4days to be exact.
I'll admit that over the last few months it's been pretty crazy with me trying to balance jobs and projects and a short course I was taking. But now we're back to 'normal' and I promise to post more often!
Hopefully 'more often' will mean once a week but hey let's not push it.
I do have some stuff to post though. There's some beauty DIY stuff, updates on my charity projects, some random commentary on random stuff (as usual) and I even have some personal/motivational stuff to share with everybody (they'll probably get mixed into my random commentary).
So definitely keep on the look out for more from the blog in the next few weeks/months. =]

Here we have it; the end of the challenge road....well the end of the road of this challenge. (it's about time)
For the last letter I decided I'd go into a topic/area I think is worth discussing (pretty much like the rest of this blog but you know what I mean)....the art of shutting up when it's the better solution.
It may sound mean, but it does make sense....
In times when your emotions are not high, and your mood is possibly a bit crazy (particularly sad, frustrated and so on):
don't make a decision
don't make a promise
don't rule an option out
...and most importantly....
don't say too much!
The fact is, you say things you don't mean, or things that aren't necessarily best, when you aren't at the best place in your mind.
Give yourself time to think and rethink when you're back at a state of 'normal' or when a particular situation is no longer immediately in front of you.
Based on my experiences..this could work wonders in making life a little better.

It really has been a while....and today as I try to keep sane with some of the things happening around me....I feel that blogging is my best bet for sanity.
So yes....it has been a long summer and a long time since I posted about what has been happening in my mind (and real life). Lately I haven't been the most lucky person...at least not with some things.
While I continue to be blessed with life and many amazing opportunities...my phone was stolen (right out of my car) and just weeks later an accident at work has left my laptop screen with weird colourful lines, cracks and black blotches. *sigh* In addition to that my room has an annoyingly random leak in one corner and my car needs a number of stuff to be fixed on it (need a new car really, but I'm working with what I've got).
Also happening this summer, I handed over my crown and I've hosted a few events for my charity as well (some crazier than others and all that jazz...something anyone who has done events can relate to).
Ah...an eventful summer yes?
Fortunately for me...the roof no longer leaks, my laptop is back to business and I still have life and amazing blessings daily.
I'm still the determined woman I told you about, so I'm staying positive about everything as much as I can...including a new phone, my charity projects and grad school!

Excited is not even the way to describe the way I feel about certain things.....I'm honestly yet to find the right word!
Though this post is late (I know) the excitement has been there for a few weeks and the mere fact that the excitement continues is to me a good sign about everything happening.
Lost?
Ok fine, most people know by now that my focus has been my foundation - Bloom Foundation for Education...and there really is no reason why my focus shouldn't be that. These last few weeks have given me the chance to see growth related to the team I have, the plans we have for the rest of the year, the support we are getting from the public and the support from corporate Jamaica and other non-profit organisations.
So I'm happy and excited about that.
Not to mention the fact that we had another successful 'Bloom project' completed this week with the Danny Williams Primary School for the Deaf and the Lister Mair Gilby High School for the Deaf. Special thanks to Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited and Geddes Grant for assisting with the prizes for the students. =]
You can keep checking in with the Bloom Foundation for Education FB and Twitter page to more info and pics on that project and others to come.
Besides the Bloom stuff....
While my boss is on leave I've got the task of putting together a newspaper, and although I have been helping with the production for a good little while now, it's definitely a little bit different when it's all up to me to get it done.
I am excited about it though, and so far, it's been pretty good. I can surely say thank God for my very organised little self and for chocolate that helps me keep everything in check. I'm happy for the challenge and I think that with the support I've got I'll do perfectly fine. =]
In addition to that....
I'm really looking at grad school again...seriously now! I've particularly started looking into studying in Europe; not because I want to be further from home but because I want a unique and amazing experience in a different country where I can possibly learn another language and embrace another culture. I of course may change my mind similar to how I got cold feet with the Japan plan...but for now Europe is looking pretty cool.
There's so much other stuff I want to learn too...
I'm trying to decide if I want to do a programme in non-profit management?? Or should I just go do French classes to get be back at that place where I can have a convo in French?? Maybe instead I should go back to ballet or kickboxing?? Short courses in event planning and graphics shouldn't be too hectic right??
Yes....very unsure what short courses I want to take up, which new things I want to learn and what activities I should get back into..........I'll figure it out though but until then I'll just be all excited about the options I have. =]
So there's that, my little balls of excitement that keep me going day by day. Each comes with its own challenges and drawbacks but I'm confident that when the time comes I'll make the right decision!
Back to work! Toodles.

W: Wunderlist review
at
11:53 PM
AlphabetChallenge |
I've promised to share my organisation secret with you all....and here it is!
WUNDERLIST
I know the name sounds odd but that's the task management software that I use to keep everything in check. It's a free program and it can be downloaded on your desktop, phone or tablet from their website.
Now, what makes it great is some of the features that help you organise tasks the way you want them to be organised.
- I can star the important tasks
- I can add notes to each task to explain the who, what, where, when and why
- I can put each task in a specific list (with each list specific to a project or job)
- I can give each task a due date....and set a reminder closer to the time it's due
And to top it off........I can sync the lists on each device I've downloaded Wunderlist to (although there is no BlackBerry version so it's currently only on my desktop) and I can share lists with other persons whether they have the program or not (of course it makes more sense if they have it too so they can add and remove tasks as they are completed).
All in all it's an easy to use program and it helps keep you on top of things by showing each day's tasks in one list and even giving another list of those overdue items I've been putting off or those I've forgotten.
Initially I was using it on my own to feel it out; but now I've decided to get the rest of the Bloom Foundation for Education board using it so that we can keep up with the things to do and what's been done without having to always be sending emails with the info.
So while I could go on about how glad I am that I found Wunderlist....I have this week's things to do list to put into my Wunderlist....so toodles!
V: very chaotic days and nights

AlphabetChallenge |
I think my lack of presence here is a sign of how chaotic my days have been. *big sigh*
I do try though to make at least one day per week be my day of 'laziness' but usually it ends up being a half day of laziness.
Between HYPE Tv, TEENage Observer and Bloom Foundation for Education....plus of course my everyday life....it's been a busy couple weeks as my various teams and I work out summer plans and where necessary plans for even more than summer.
I'll admit that although it may be holding me back from all the random idle time I used to have.....I'm glad I'm busy because I'm working towards the dreams and goals!
This week looks as chaotic as the past ones but it opens up those lovely opportunities I want and need....so I'm game for it all.....my next post (which is also late) will tell you about the program I use to keep up with everything I need to get done!

U: UMOJA - benefit night for Bloom
at
12:43 AM
AlphabetChallenge |
Late AlphabetChallange post again this week (sorry guys) but it's a good one for a good cause....so read on =]
As you should know by now, I am 100% supporting the Bloom Foundation for Education which is my brainchild that focuses on improving the educational facilities and opportunities for special needs children in Jamaica.
With that said....I'll note that the Labour Day project to repaint the Danny Williams Primary School for the Deaf went well and we have some amazing pictures to help you be a part of the experience.
But following that, the help doesn't end there; and besides our ongoing coin drive our next project will be a benefit performance of the Campion Collage Dance Society's 2nd season of dance. Dubbed UMOJA (which is a Swahili word that means unity and togetherness) the show will take a journey through the first 50 years of independent Jamaica, and give a feeling of unity and togetherness for the audience members to leave with.
Of course this means that you cannot miss the show! Not only because it is all set to be amazing, but also because it's a benefit performance and the funds will be used for a scholarship that will go to a Deaf student in St Andrew.
Now just in case you need that little reminder...here's all the important info:
Bloom Foundation for Education benefit performance of the Campion College Dance Society 2nd Season of Dance - UMOJA
Date: Friday June 29th
Location: The Little Theatre (Tom Redcam Avenue)
Showtime: 7pm
Ticket cost: $1000
You can feel free to contact me to arrange the pick up/drop off of tickets and if you want more information on the foundation and/or the project.
Oh....and for all the fans and friends overseas who are wondering 'where is the online donation link'....don't worry we'll have it soon so you'll be able to lend a hand without having to leave home. =]
So back to the dance show! Bring a friend and come enjoy the Friday night show, there's really no reason for you to miss it and if you want to contribute but you aren't able to attend, let us tell you about how you can help make a difference!

hold the faith....you determined woman you
at
12:51 AM
Feeling a bit defeated this weekend because there is so much that didn't get done last week and so much to do this week (even without considering the things to be finished from last week).
So yes, my things to do list is very long (got a new program that I'll review for you soon) and my brain keeps ticking trying to figure out how to balance it all.
Of course in the mix I'm getting flustered because somethings that I know can be done with just a little help....aren't getting the little help it needs. That would I believe fluster anyone, but when I think it through I amd reminded of the saying 'if you need something done right then do it yourself' ...and in fine print....this is of course unless it is something that requires technical assistance from an individual with knowledge in a specific field.
..............and just my luck.....one of the things I needed to get done was of the 'technical' nature. sigh
Fortunately for me help was available and now it's back to sorting everything else out.
What made me perk up was when a friend of mine reminded me that all the frustration and the desire to get things done is not necessarily bad....and its all signs of a determined woman.
She did make me feel better because I guess it reminded me that all the worry and stress is within good reason.
It also reminded me that I need to fine tune some other aspects of my life and make sure I find some me-time. I honestly have no problem with that plan.....a work in progress I believe, and there's 100% no reason why I can start now.
Until then I'll be doing me with my usual determined little self.
On another note! Remember to check in with my non-profit foundation on Facebook and Twitter!

This week's AlphabetChallenge post is merely in photo.
I was browsing the net and found a few photo quotes, and these two stood out to me. So here are my WordsOfWisdom that I think are just perfect to share with you.
They actually fit in perfectly with the situations happening today, so this may just have been the subtle way of God telling me to not stress with the not so positive factors.
I did find some comfort in these words....even if I found them online (you can see the credit at the bottom-centre of each photo)....hope they help motivate you too!

S: sleep deprived

AlphabetChallenge |
I think I can honestly say that it's been a long time since I slept and felt that 'well rested' feeling in the morning. It has been a hectic few weeks and every opportunity to sleep have been short and 'just enough' for me to get by throughout the day.
After yawning twice in succession and running a red light this week, I really have a greater appreciation for my nap times and I'm honestly considering a week off from work (a real week off) so I can get my body back to a healthy well-rested state. If not, I know that I'll be catching every cold and flu that passes by me....and that is never good!
Of course after thinking 'what else can happen because I haven't slept?' I googled it....and in a nutshell this is what I found.
I've already been affected by severe yawning and irritability, and I believe I've also had hallucinations and a decrease in my reaction time....I think too that I may have just found the reason why I've been gaining weight!
Ok maybe that's a bit extreme.....but before things get worse, I do hope some sleep can be mine this weekend....in between my Bloom Foundation for Education meeting (that all persons are invited to) and Mother's Day excitement!

R: really prefer working from home
at
9:30 PM
AlphabetChallenge |
I think it's fair to say that majority of my work gets done from home....
It's always interesting to share with someone the various things I do, for them to ask the almost obvious question "so when, how and where do you get all this work done?" The answer is home of course.....from there I usually hear about all the things they have at home that would make it almost impossible to work.
Interestingly enough, I prefer (just about 85% prefer) to work in the comfort of my home than to work behind a desk in an office. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind working from an office.....but preferably one at home or in a situation where the work can be done from home.
Usually after saying all this, I'm greeted with a slightly confused (but more intrigued) face from the person I'm speaking with.
Besides the fact that working from home means I can be working in my pj's, get personal things done in between work and more or less shape my own work hours, I think I've developed some ways to get work done although I'm home with my glorious bed!
So as requested by of one of my readers, here are some of my tactics used to work efficiently from home (some of which can be applied even if you work in a traditional office environment).
1. Set your work hours
This is really important! Just because you're office is where you live and things can get a lot more flexible, it doesn't mean that you work around the clock. Set out specific work hours and ignore work related calls/faxes/emails outside of that time (similar to how you would leave the traditional office and go home away from work). Of course you can change the time from day to day depending on what you need to do that's not work related.
2. Write it all down
From your meeting dates to the people you need to call....write it all down. Get a calendar to keep track of events, and a book to make all your jottings of the things you need to do. On one day each week make a fresh list of what needs to get done (probably a Monday or Friday depending on whether your weeks or weekends are busier) and asterisk or highlight the ones that are urgent, overdue or involve a lot of work. Though the list may seem overwhelming, it's much easier to track what you need to do and what you've accomplished in one week.
3. Plan your day
While you may know what needs to get done for the week, each day will have specific things that need to happen or things you need to sort out. When you know exactly what needs to get done, it's likely that you'll actually be more efficient. Jot down all the things you need to do for the day and separate them into personal and business. This way you can slot everything into specific times and where possible you can bundle some things together (like the things you may need to get done on the road, calls you need to make or emails you need to send). Although you may already have a things to do list for the week, planning your day each day would give you the chance to add in those minor things and random things that pop up.
4. Reply to emails at set times
Email's and messages of whatever kind will come in at various hours of the day. Some persons have a tendency to check back at the email window every few minutes checking for new mail; but to avoid wasting time, set three or four times per day to check and respond to emails. The number of times per day would of course depend on the average number of emails you get per day...but this is one way to give yourself time to focus on other things that you need to get done.
5. Split business and personal
This more or less includes not having business meetings at home, taking personal matters into your own hands during work hours and of course that ll your business stuff aren't crossing with personal stuff. Easy ways to keep things in check is to get a business phone number and email address, and to give all business paperwork a shelf, folder, or cupboard all for itself. This helps you stay organised and this way you can 'turn off' all business communication when you are outside of business hours.
6. Get in your stress relief
Stress relief is needed sometimes when working at home gets hectic. It may seem silly, but think about your relaxation time as the time you would spend in the lunch room if you were working in a traditional office. For me, I spend this time having lunch, catching a tv show or working out. I do Zumba (a dance workout) so that's not only fun, but is also a healthy way to spend my relax time.
7. Use templates
Make your life a little easier and use those hundreds of free templates available online for proposals, budgets, emails and even keeping your life organised. Of course it would also only make sense to tweek the templates to suit your needs, then save it as a 'new template' for you to use later. This helps me get things done a lot faster because more or less there's a template that's as close as possible to what you want.
8. Save, save and save
Yup it's that serious! I've been told in the past to save in triplicate...on the laptop, on the flash drive and your email or maybe an external hard drive, CD or something. The whole idea is that just in case things go haywire the info is somewhere that you can easily access it without much worry...kinda like when you back-up your smart phone to your laptop or some other device. In the past this has surely saved me so I can 100% recommend you do it too.
So there's that.....although working from home may not be the easiest thing, I have definitely found ways to make it easier, and they work for me perfectly!

Q: queen Kim...over and out
at

AlphabetChallenge |
It was a dream of mine to be a princess....and since I know Disney princesses were all already taken and the royal family was a bit far.....I knew a pageant princess and queen would suit me just perfectly.
May 2011 marked the beginning of the journey, and as such, May 2012 means it's been a year since I was crowned Miss Jamaica Global International 2011..and it is time to pass on the crown.
The journey has been a unique one...at least it was unique to me because I had various expectations, and of course because the journey could only have been as good as I made it. Obviously there were ups-and-downs as I worked to finish my degree and balance the meetings and preparations I had for internationals.
Following that there was the amazing week I had entertaining beautiful ladies from around the world here in my island home. We've been sure to keep up with each other regardless of the differences in time, and I honestly do hope that in time I'll be able to travel to them to enjoy even just a week in each country.
Also in the mix of it all, I worked alongside my adopted charity - Danny Williams Primary School for the Deaf and I enjoyed every minute of it. This actually was what I spent most of my reign doing, and I enjoyed it so much that I continue to work with them and have a number of projects lined up all with the goal of helping the school overcome some of their challenges.
I've had the opportunity to meet persons who otherwise I would not, and gone to places and events that without my title I may have never even considered. I enjoyed it.....all the frantic worries, the confusions and the smiles.
I guess I can honestly say that although a part of me is excited to pass on the crown on May 5th....another part of me wouldn't mind keeping it all for myself! But I have my title, photos, sashes, dresses and the many one in a million memories to hold dear....and for that reason...I'm happy.
I thank each and every person who has supported me on this journey, and for those who have asked....this may or may not be my last competition...who knows what the future holds.... =]

100th post
at
10:31 PM
I was about to post my AlphabetChallenge post for this week then I noticed that it would be my 100th post.
So instead, I decided to do my 100th post separately and to do something special for you all. I know 100 posts isn't the greatest feat of them all, but my I've been told that with life being so unpredictable, you should celebrate when you can =]
I'm going to take you on highlight for you my lovely readers, 12 of the posts I've liked most:
1. Woes of a college student was my first post and it really did just take me back to the beginning of my final year in university. By that time I had learned a lot, started balancing even more things, and in my opinion I began accepting more things as 'the realities of adult life' and all that jazz.
2. Does our education system need a change? was a big deal for me because after going into a number of schools and sharing my experiences with other educators and caregivers....this was really the question on my mind. Of course I thought about the fact that this change may be a long time coming, but will may take a longer time to get done. Who knows just how far the ideas have spread and how many people I've got thinking about it since...hopefully I've gotten enough persons thinking so that we can start seeing some changes....even if it's just at the early childhood level.
3. Do it anyway was another favourite of mine. At the time that I heard those Paradoxical Commandments, I was at an odd place, somewhat in between reality and trying to figure out the 'what next' in my life. Interestingly enough it was after really taking in those words that I fully dived into my non-profit organisation - Bloom Foundation for Education; and I love every bit of it!
4. Japan? got me excited to be honest.....but then I guess when I considered living so far away for a year and possibly not getting the chance to launch Bloom, work on grad school stuff and see my family.......I chickened out. Not too surprised at this though because I think at that point I wanted to go mostly for the chance to travel and not necessarily for the opportunity to teach English to others. My feelings will change though eventually, and maybe some other time I'll do this Japan teaching exchange program.
5. Of birthday cakes and bars was of course a favourite of mine because that was the party I planned for my hunni...with his super surprise cake that he totally loved! I still smile knowing that I actually successfully surprised him with it because I was quite worried that he would have found out some way or another (particularly through his younger brothers or my little sister). Happy I made his 21st birthday special...especially since we aren't big fans of our own birthdays but instead, or each others. =]
6. worldAIDSday - Know your status! was my way of spreading the word about some of the events happening in Kingston Jamaica for World AIDS day in 2011. I've always been told that prevention is better than cure, so I think it's important to remind persons to be proactive in protecting themselves, and to go out and get tested for not only AIDS but for other sexually transmitted diseases. On that note....you should go get tested!
7. Childhood memories was a mental throwback for me....I will admit that I had fun jumping on my bed, and I engage in the ever so fun-loving activity every now and again (when Mom is obviously not home). It was nice to recount the various things that helped to make my childhood so darn amazing!
8. Alphabet Challenge marked the beginning of my first blog challenge. The idea is that I post about a different letter each week starting of course at A. After about a month I noticed that 'posting on Mondays' wasn't going to work at all and now I pretty much just post one day during the week.....sadly it has gotten to the point where sometimes I end up posting two letter posts back to back because I'm too busy to make it happen in good time. But I'm working on it....and I've actually got another challenge when this one is finished so look out for it.
9. Blooming excited publicly marked the official beginning of my Bloom Foundation for Education journey. I'm extremely excited to help make a difference in the lives of these kids especially as it relates to their education. Of course the team and I haven't gone all out with the promotion and fundraising just yet, but listen out for us because it's all gonna be happening pretty fast. For those of you who want to know about the foundation, you can get some info on the Facebook page (click here) or you can email us at bloomfoundation4edu@gmail.com for info. Look out for our blog and website coming soon!
10. Surf's up was a post that came from an adventure! I'm a decent swimmer but surfing was never something I considered doing...especially not here in Jamaica. But when my boyfriend and I got the opportunity, we were pretty excited to do it even just for the sake of saying 'I've surfed before.' Life is unpredictable and I guess my advice is to enjoy it!
11. #TeamTal so proud .....this was one pageant journey I enjoyed from the sidelines. From the day Talia told me she was thinking of entering the competition, to even the day after the final coronation. I was glad to see that someone was able to learn from me and my previous pageant journeys. I guess it gave me that additional reminder of the purpose I have: sharing my knowledge and experiences with others so that they too can benefit. I honestly do appreciate that she came to me for help, and from it all I've not only built a friendship...but I also get to work with someone who's equally as passionate about making a difference! =]
12. L: Living by the rules of the Dalai Lama was of course an AlphabetChallenge post (note the format of the headline) but it was also a list of some things we could take into consideration to help make our lives a bit more successful, peaceful and maybe even more purpose-driven. The positivity of it really made me smile and of course got me thinking about my life and how I deal with situations. I've been told that self-improvement is one of the best ways to get closer to your full potential....so it's full speed ahead!
So there's that
Yes I know....12 is a bit of an odd number but when I scanned through the list of posts these were literally the ones that stood out for me. Maybe if I check the list tomorrow some would change but this is it now and I'm pretty happy with the selections.
Hope you all have enjoyed the first 100....there's lots more to come!

AlphabetChallenge |
This past Sunday (April 15th) was my birthday *cue excitement and all that jazz* and although most years my birthday is all sad and blah for me, this one was great!
There was no amazing eye-catching birthday cake, nor was there a specially invited list of guests....instead my amazing team of birthday revelers - my sisters, 3 friends and my hunni; took to the streets with the Bacchanal Jamaica 2012 crew for Road March.
I'll admit that with so much stuff on my mind, I was worried about how much fun I would actually have. Though there were some hiccups with the moments of grumpy little me; the road march rain, the soca music and the hint of rum had me thoroughly enjoying the time with my team who ensured that there was never a dull moment from start to finish.
On Monday, the remains of my great day included leg pains, sunburn, a raspy voice and fatigue....all of which will be 'cured' hopefully by the end of the week. Sadly I haven't gotten all the lovely photos from the day that I wanted to post, but when I do I will post them so you all can see how I thoroughly enjoyed the start of my 22nd year!

O: opportunities abound

oh lookie here...my post is early this week (thanks to a long weekend) =]
Instead of looking at the stress, complications and possible
hiccups...focus on the opportunities that will come during and after the
experience. -Kim
It's been a rough couple of weeks!
I've been just about swamped with work as I try to get everything together for my foundation to launch at the end of April; plus I've got work and work and freelancing and my life (including sleeping, blogging and spending time with my bebe) to balance.
I think it's fair to say though that I am surviving and doing a decent job at it. Of course with all this work there must be some benefit to be derived and I'll just look at it as 'opening the doors for more opportunities.'
My various hats and the experiences that come from each one, have allowed me to meet new and interesting people who open doors and make other experiences possible.
I'll admit that my biggest fear is failing, but I guess that just makes me a normal human being. I don't necessarily worry that things won't work out, but I honestly worry that things won't work out the way I want them to. Again I guess that makes me normal.....but this fear becomes more forward in my mind as I plan events, meetings, campaigns and complete sponsorship contracts.
Even now, as I put everything together for a campaign with D'Events, I am a bit concerned that my over the top ideas will be a bit too much for a first try; but I've been lucky enough to already see the opportunity for new connections to be made and new doors to open. It's a whole lot of work especially since I'm balancing it and the other things I need to get done.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. -Eleanor Roosevelt
I guess in order for me to keep surviving...besides having faith that it'll all work out, I'll be keeping the thought in mind as I work on my Bloom Foundation for Education, get my work done with HYPE Tv and TEENage Observer, as I continue my graduate school hunt and in between my freelance work!
Consider it a tip from Kim!

N: next on the list!
at
2:07 AM
AlphabetChallenge |
Another late post I know....I'm getting from bad to worse sigh
Anywho...I think by now most people know that my things to do lists are my all and everything lists that keep me sane and remind me of course of what I need to get done.
Each week I make a list for each hat I wear and I note the deadlines for those things that actually have deadlines. I use arrows or some kind of symbol to note the ones that have to be done so something else can get done and I highlight the 'places to go' ones like the meetings I need to be at.
More or less these little things to do lists have helped me to get organised for as long as I can remember. Although sometimes I focus on one list and kinda ignore others (for example now my main list is the one for my Bloom Foundation for Education and everything else is secondary).
But on a serious note, persons who have trouble with procrastination, memory and organising, the easiest thing to do is to make a list of all the things you need to get done. Here's some tips to making a good things to do list and making it work!
- On one sheet of paper, write it all down regardless of which area of your life the 'thing to do' belongs to
- Then think about all the areas of your life that you have things to do for (eg: school, work, home) and write each heading on a sheet of paper
- Separate the list of things you wrote down and put then under their respective headings
- On each sheet, highlight the places you need to go, things you need to purchase and people you need to call in different colours or using different symbols.
- By this time you should be able to see what needs to get done and you should be able to see a full idea of the things you can try and tackle together (eg getting all the things you need to buy at one time).
- Tick things off as you get them done!
Feel free to jot down on the lists some things that you've already done so you can tick them off and feel a bit motivated to get other things done. It's important too to put the list somewhere you can see it easily or have easy access to it, so that you can add and tick off things easily. Also remember to make your lists probably on a Sunday afternoon when you can really sit and think through all the things you need to get done in the coming week.
Try to remember that one of the main things that cause a lack of progress is the lack of organisation....so get to it!

M: making a difference
at
10:35 PM
AlphabetChallenge |
It's amazing to see how one person can make a difference, and how in the same breath so many people think that lending a hand means very little and changes nothing. -Anonymous
The statement above is quite true in my opinion (considering that this blog expresses my opinions)....and ever too often I think persons ignore a situation within their local community (or seemingly push it to the side) because they don't think there is any way they can help or they believe it is the responsibility of someone else.
My belief is that every individual no matter what, should think it is important to give to those in need....whether in cash or kind...large or small. I think it is extremely important for persons to make 'making a difference' a part of their life goals.
Yes there are those who can do more and should do more but what help is it to someone in need if you complain about what others should do instead of doing something yourself? Why try to convince the world that we are humanitarians and love mankind, if we prefer to point a finger and wait for a revolution nobody wants to start? Why is it that so often we turn a blind eye to an issue until it reaches a point of severity?
So here's my solution.....
Since we often sing on the statement 'to each his own' it is (in my opinion) the responsibility of each citizen to become a part of a foundation that helps others. Whether you join as a donor, member or volunteer; once you are helping to make a positive difference in the life of someone else I believe you feel better about yourself and you can from there help to spread philanthropy like a good virus.
I've already decided how I will make a difference, and if you want you can feel free to join me as a member or donor of my Bloom Foundation for Education, where the aim is to improve the educational services and opportunities available to special needs students in Jamaica. But, if you have a passion for something else or you want to work closer to home, then start the search for the non-profit organisation or association that suits your preferences.
And you don't have to have loads of money! That's a myth and just totally ridiculous. Even if you decide to have a coin drive, or donate in small amounts...that's you making a difference. If you put away all the coins you have at the end of a day, by the end of the month or even the year most persons have a good amount of money in coins and that can be donated....now imagine if you, your family and two or three other friends did the same?
You don't have to sell your soul or to go as far as to put yourself at a disadvantage...just do the little you can to make a difference.

a US$68million diamond ring!?
at
9:51 PM
Saw this posted on someone's Facebook profile and I just had to blog it and see what you all think.
Now let me present to you....the 'world's first diamond ring'
This isn't your average 24 carat gold ring with a lovely diamond on top. What you're seeing here is a full diamond ring that has a total of 150 carats and costs a whopping US$68million!
So as an April baby with diamond as my birthstone, you can imagine how pleased I would be with more diamonds in my life.
But in the world I live in, this is the perfect reason for just about anyone to stalk/kidnap/steal from you!
I do want an amazing diamond ring made of gold or platinum even lol....but I guess I would be quite worried walking around with US$68million on just one finger (note of course that I would also be wearing a bracelet, chain or earrings...maybe even all together).
So although quite gorge.....I think for my safety I'll stick to a 'normal' ring with diamonds! (but feel free to get adventurous you future husband you lol)
Plus......think about how many persons around the world or even just in Jamaica who are in need and could use that US$68million to cover the cost of their basic survival...........

L: living by the rules of the Dalai Lama
at
10:43 PM
AlphabetChallenge |
Motivation is a big part of my life and more often than not, it's me motivating myself. I do have the support of others to help me feel better about some stuff, but self-motivation has become a part of me (probably because I'm a middle child and used to having to do things on my own).
Anywho...
It's been a hectic last few weeks and over the last few months there have been a number of decisions I've had to make regarding 'what happens next' now that I'm done with university. I'll admit that at times I feel like giving up is easiest, but I think with such an unsure path I've been learning a lot about life, about myself and about dealing with different people and situations.
I've grown to better understand and appreciate the 18 rules of living (as quotes by the Dalai Lama) and at times it's little things like this that pump me with motivation and help me come back to terms with some of the things I honestly can't change (but of course wish I could).
The Dalai Lama's 18 rules of living
01. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.02. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
03. Follow the three R's: respect for self, respect for others and respect for all your actions.04. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
05. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.06. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
07. When you realise you have made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.08. Spend some time alone every day.
09. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.16. Once a year, go somewhere you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is the one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
So these are now my day to day reminders during my hectic schedule that help me feel more motivated, have a little more faith and believe more in myself and my abilities.

chaotic days
at
9:32 PM
There is so much I want to post about everyday, but between my things to do list that keeps growing and my other day to day movements, I've had some chaotic days these last couple weeks.
Between my jobs and getting my stuff done for the registration, launch and final planning for my foundation....it's been crazy. I haven't had too much time to myself but usually when I do, I spend it with the hunny or family.
I do like a more hectic life though, otherwise I would be so bored I'd probably go berserk and then get annoyed at it all. Plus, busy is a sign to me that I'm working to get closer to my goals; and that's just about what I've been doing!
On the other hand, I do hope that soon enough things cool down even a little so I can post more and relax more. Until then.....back to my chaos!

After buying the perfect palette and probably using it a couple times, many fab femmes have the same problem where it slips from you, falls to the floor and shatters.
Based on the stories I've heard, more often than not it happens when you're rushing to get ready and have no time to figure out how you'll fix it.
Recently it was just my luck that my pressed powder fell and cracked a bit. So I went on a hunt to find a fixer because in my mind 'this must happen to other women and there must be a way to fix this.'
I was so excited for a solution that I forgot to take pics (sorry guys) but I've embedded the video that I used below so you can try it. There are a number of these videos on YouTube with different persons fixing their broken make-up. The methods are the same, but this is the one I thought gave the best up-close and step-by-step solution.
While the problem I had was with my pressed powder, know that it can also work with your eye shadow and blush (I tried it with blush as well...but not the eyeshadow).
I hope this saves your broken make-up disaster!

TADA! The solution was right there on YouTube!

So here are my recommendations:
1. Try to find the 'perfect sizes circle' before you start
the process. That way you're sure it will press to fit
the circle better and more evenly.
2. The alcohol they refer to is rubbing alcohol. I don't
know if the alcohol for drinking works....I stuck to the
script.
3. Use a bobby pin or something smaller than the knife to
help mixing powder and the alcohol. I found it to be a
lot less messy.
4. Avoid using soft tissue! Hand towel is the best bet. The
softer tissues leave little bits behind.
5. Leave the make-up open for about a day for it to dry
completely. It may harden pretty fast but that may not
mean it's fully dry underneath.
I hope this saves your broken make-up disaster!

On rainy days like today when I have a number of things all planned to do, I remember a bit from a book I read (then wrote it down and placed it in the drawer of my night stand):
There's always going to be some person or reason for you to think you're unable or it's okay for you to stop what you're doing. If you allow that thing to stop you once, it opens the door for other things to stop you at another time.Don't allow anything to stop you from finishing your tasks or reaching your goal.As long as you're able, keep going!
It's true....
Some days you wake up and a random headache stops you from getting stuff done. The following day the rain falls and you decide to sleep in or simply stay off the road. Maybe the next day a bad mood slows you down....but if you allow those thing to stop your progress then you've wasted just about three days.
Three days that could have been used for business calls, email responses, finishing that paper or starting that research.
More often than not it's consider procrastination, but sometimes it's as if things just are working against the progress. In my opinion, all the things that try to steer you away from getting things done, are mini-tests or challenges God sends you to see if you're going to keep going.
They all present the chance for you to prove your strength and keep working for what you want. All giving you the chance to overcome minor obstacles, and to make you more prepared to overcome the bigger ones that tend to come with success.
Each challenge no matter how small, is aimed at making you stronger. Whether it's the hater who says you can't do it, shouldn't do it or don't deserve it; or the course of events that all seem to be making the final product further out of reach......keep going!
I'll admit, maybe the challenges keep coming because God's trying to tell you 'not yet'....but the only way you'll know for sure if that's the case is if you have faith!
Otherwise, keep moving, because you really don't know how close you are to the end when you decide to quit!
